To Know Christ And to Make Him Known

Nassau Lutheran School

Calvary almost from its inception supported Nassau Lutheran School, a joint effort of a dozen of our Nassau County congregations. In 1966 Calvary had 45 children attending the school. Especially in the beginning of our history our members invested a huge amount of time and energy in Nassau Lutheran. Our volunteers served in many capacities from cook to treasurer. A sharp decline in interest on the part of the supporting congregations together with a decided racial imbalance were the main causes for the closing of the school in 1993. Nassau Lutheran School that had blessed so many families in the county was sold to the village of Mineola. The nine congregations that remained supporters of Nassau Lutheran School at its closing, including Calvary, received an equal share from the sale of the school -- $80,181. Of that amount Calvary gave 10% to Long Island Lutheran High School.
