To Know Christ And to Make Him Known

In The Church Office

A church secretary plays a very significant role. She is usually the first -- and sometimes the only -- contact a person has when calling the church. It is therefore important that she be a good representative of the Lord. Calvary fortunately has had dedicated, conscientious full-time secretaries.

June Seymour was our secretary for 19 years. She was a sympathetic listener, a cheerful witness to Jesus. For 18 years June taught Sunday School and was a Sunday School superintendent. She was a Guild president and an entertainer at many a church function.

Helga Schaffner served for 23 years until January 1999. She was efficient and showed concern for people in time of crisis. Helga was extremely helpful during our two pastoral vacancies. During that time she kept in touch with our regional District vice-president in arranging for guest preachers, Baptisms, weddings, and funerals. In addition, she assigned weekly evangelism calls, decided who was to receive altar flowers and had full responsibility for completing the annual statistical report for our national headquarters.

Darlene Cummings is the first non-member to serve as our church secretary. She took the position in April 1999. Darlene has proved to be a cooperative, devoted worker.

From the very beginning a goodly number of women -- and some men -- have spent a tremendous amount of time and energy assisting in the church office. We are grateful to them for multiplying the efforts of the church secretary and saving the church a great deal of money.
