Vacation Bible School
We have had a Vacation Bible School (VBS) since 1958. It is a service to the community. More important, it is a real mission opportunity. A hundred children (at times twice that many) come to us five mornings a week. Usually the majority are non-Lutherans. What an opportunity to teach them about Jesus and His love! Thank God for teachers and helpers -- adults and teen-agers -- who are willing to devote a whole week of their summer to do this. In our early years we had Vacation Bible School for two weeks. Often it has been held in the hottest weather of the season.
1999 was another great year for our VBS. The children were taught, as usual, at various stations. A staff member was responsible for one part of the program -- teaching the Bible lesson, art, music, gym activity or snack time. Erie Eichinger took the 6th graders on field trips to Jones Beach, Eisenhower Park and the top of Nassau County Medical Center.
